Comic: COMIC BOOK COMICS #3
Fred Van Lente, story; Ryan Dunlavey, art.
COMIC BOOK COMICS presents the history of comic books, as, um a comic book. This issue focuses on the comic book “threat” of the 1950s, Wertham’s Seduction of the Innocent, and the creation of the Comics Code Authority. It boils down last year’s excellent The Ten-Cent Plague: The Great Comic Book Scare and How It Changed America by David Hajdu to its essence.
There’s also articles about comics’ influence on Pop art, camp, and the creation of fanzines in comic culture. This is a great read, extensively researched with annotations available at the Evil Twin Comics site.
